Kennedy Waters lives in a world where vengeance spirits kill, ghosts keep secrets, and a demon walks among us–a demon she accidentally set free.
Now Kennedy and the other Legion members–Alara, Priest, Lukas, and Jared–have to hunt him down. As they learn more about the history of the Legion and the Illuminati, Kennedy realizes that the greatest mystery of all does not belong to any secret order, but to her own family. With the clock ticking and the life of someone she loves hanging in the balance, Kennedy has to ask the question she fears most: what is it about her past that has left her Unmarked?
My Rating – 3 of 5 stars
I received a digital copy of this book for free from Netgalley on behalf of Little, Brown Books for Young Readers in exchange for an honest review
This is the second book in The Legion series. This review may contain spoilers about the previous book.
I read this book a few weeks ago but life has been so busy I haven’t had the chance to sit down and review it. However, I have forgotten a lot of the book already. I have to say I’m not impressed by this book. It wasn’t terrible by any means but just kind of meh.
Kennedy has been separated from the rest of the Legion members since the night she unleashed a demon into the world. Once a good girl with good grades, she’s now a disturbed runaway and once she recovers from her injuries, her aunt quickly sends her off to a boarding school for troubled girls.
The demon is tearing the world apart; there are storms, murders, suicides, and missing girls that look like Kennedy. Jared finds her soon enough, and she runs off with him again, joining her friends.
The question remains on why Kennedy doesn’t have her mark yet but soon they figure it out. Kennedy has an aunt. Her family reunion doesn’t last long before they are running for their lives again, only to be confronted by the Legion’s enemy, the Illuminati. The demon is far too powerful for these kids to handle and they need the Illuminati’s help.
However, before they can kill the demon, he possesses Jared. Kennedy and Lukas refuse to let the Illuminati kill Jared to kill the demon and now they must find a way to save him before it’s too late.
So, this book is far less action packed than the last one. It’s definitely a middle book if that makes sense. Some questions are answered, more brought up, and A LOT of “this is all my fault and I feel sorry for myself, everyone else feel sorry for me too because my dad left when I was a kid and my mom just died” from Kennedy. (Even though ALL the members of the Legion have lost close relatives, that’s how they became current Legion members and they all thought the device would vanquish the demon because they are all just KIDS who are GUESSING).
I think that is a big part of what annoys me about this series; yes Kennedy has no idea what is going on but supposedly the others trained for this most of their lives, shouldn’t they know better? Shouldn’t they have more knowledge about what to do? I realize that their relatives probably thought they would have more time to train but I feel like they should know more than they do. Idk. Maybe I’m just too picky.
Kennedy’s teen angst drove me crazy and there were some I Love You’s exchanged, even though she’s only known Jared for a few weeks. (If that?) We also learn some more about Kennedy’s past and her family which was interesting.
I’ll probably end up reading the next book in the series because I must have resolution for things but I probably won’t rush to it.
